Naps, Talking, and Walking (Day 5)
This day was as I expected it to be… a very good day. Our night was pretty long because there was just too much stuff to do. Everytime that she had to use the bathroom, it took a long time to get her moving. I didn’t end up going to sleep until about 4:30, thus the reason I took a nap today (it was very n
ice). Once we finally got to sleep we were out for the count.
Kristi woke up feeling pretty good. I did some laundry and the awesome Nurses Assistant Tanya gave Kristi a bath and got her clean. Everything got going at about noon time, and from then on it was just fun and relaxing. At about 10am someone came in and took out Kristi’s pain cathaders on her chest placed around the pectus area (I don’t really know because I was taking a shower), and then at about noon the Birmingham Harley Club came in to say hi and give Kristi a dew rag and a bear. Thats right… Kristi had a biker gang come in to visit her today. (I thought it was pretty funny because it was so random). We talked to them for a bit, and joked around… then they left delivering their dew rags of joy to all the little girls and boys in pain.
I was pretty tired from the previous night, so I laid down and took a couple hour
nap and woke up with Kristi and Mom asleep too. It was pretty nice. Nothing to interrupt us, and actually allowed Kristi to get some good sleep (which definately helps in the healing process).
After we woke up, one of our awesome nurses Nico took Kristi off of the morphine and her mom braided her hair. (Now it is this part of the day that I don’t know precisely how it went. For some reason it all blurs together.) We talked and got up a couple of times… and then I went for a walk to see the sunshine. I hadn’t really been outside for a couple of days… it was pretty nice. I walked around, sweat a bunch, and talked
to my best friend Kerry.
I came back after that, and Kristi was looking really good. I mean really good. It was like everything had cleared up and there she was back to her old self. I think getting her off of the morphine did her a lot of good. She looked really good and I knew that we were going to get her up and walking by the end of the day. I sat on the bed with her, and the three of us (her mom, her, and me) hung out.
Kristi’s cousin Beverly and her husband Allen came by to visit soon after that. We talked for a while about life, Jesus, and how to control pain. By the time that we were done, visiting hours were over, so they left.
Kristi and I decided to be adventurous. We got her up and walked down to the end of the hall and back. It was awesome. She is definitely progressing well. I am almost positive that if we do not get our of here tomorrow, we will definitely be out of here by Monday. I can see that Kristi is very encouraged as well with all of her progress, and we are praising the Lord with His healing and strength that He is giving Kristi.

Now she is fast asleep and we are looking forward to what tomorrow brings.

Hi Kristie this is Grampa B.We have been following your progress every day on the Blog that Dan set up. He certainly did a nice job and he is very innovative. I was impressed with that when he had you breathing out making faces to distract you from the bad pain the first post op. day! I hope you can get out of the hospital tomorrow, but wait a few days at Dan and Matties home before that long drive to Lubbock. We keep you in our prayers for a safe return there. We love you VERY MUCH!!!
